Karens traumatic death- Covid

Well. It was a rough weekend. Karen died. We didn’t have her tested, but we’re assuming and counting it as a covid death. We thought she was getting better and going to be able to share her big cage with the manager and his assistant again. She was in her jail cage when I noticed her facing the wall. I figured she was depressed , with good reason how things had changed for her in the preceding weeks. So, I let her out to hawk the manager from the top of his cage , one of her favorite activities. She didn’t look right and was nearly falling over. We set her down on a hard surface and the most traumatic 15 minutes unfolded. She flapped and squeaked and continuously fell over as Darby cried helplessly; the manager and his assistant silently watching behind him. It was so horrendous, I pulled out my phone to play some parakeet sounds just to calm her down . It calmed her alright, she got quiet and never moved again. We held her funeral Later that afternoon. Darby, through tears gave a sweet eulogy and read a passage of the Bible he picked out ;, psalm 148 ( it speaks of sea creatures and flying birds all praising God :)) We left fresh flowers on her grave and went on to swim and play basketball. Every argument between Darby and Cooper over the basketball game ended like this : “my bird just died, give me a break, I’m grieving”. I think I heard that phrase about 400 times throughout the afternoon. Thank God i didn’t hear it anymore when he woke up Sunday. The manager and his assistant are doing well. RIP Karen
